For the last four years, French photographer Laurent Kronental has been documenting the lives of the senior citizens who now live in Paris’ big housing projects that were built between the 1950’s and 1980’s, when Paris was booming thanks to foreign migration and urbanization .
The project’s name is “Souvenir d’un futur” and the name of these dated modernist housing projects is “Grands Ensembles“.

Using an analog camera, Kronenthal captures melancholic images of the senior citizens as well as the concrete buildings. The looks of the buildings might have been futuristic in the 60’s but now they look a bit like a dystopian present.

When you visit Paris next time, visit these estates too.
